We were truly sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Babtunde Osotimehin, executive director of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. He was a keen member of the UN Social 500 since March 2015 and always ranked highly – peaking at number 9 in October 2016.
A fellow member of UN Social 500 and UNFPA representative, Massimo Diana paid tribute to Babatunde saying “He was a strong advocate for the rights of girls and the well-being of women, fighting against child marriage, female genital mutilation and promoting young people. He used social media as a tool to amplify these messages.”
It is clear to see that Babatunde’s work is appreciated by many and will not be soon forgotten. He will be sadly missed.
